Riverbend Ramblings

FOR TODAY~ June 8, 2009... Outside my window...it's been sunny most of the morning, but I see some rain clouds forming in the distance. I am thinking...that I'm going to have my hands full with my new group of girls in Sunday school. Yesterday was Promotion Sunday, and I welcomed 31 upcoming seventh graders into my class. I am thankful for...afternoon rain showers. From the learning rooms...we're taking a break right now and will pick up with some review work in a couple of weeks. From the kitchen...baked salmon, brown rice, and a salad from the garden. I am wearing...a coral shirt and navy skirt. I am creating...a list of things that the kids will need for camp next week. Three kids going at one time--I'm not sure I can handle it! I am reading...in my Bible: I Kings and Mark; just for fun: Alexandra Stoddard's Living Beautifully Together. I am hoping...that the little girls will take a short nap this afternoon. They stayed up way too late last night. I am hearing...Bookworm playing classical hymns on the piano. Around the house...vacuuming, ironing hubby's dress shirts, and straightening the attic. One of my favorite things...taking a walk through the neighborhood in the early morning quiet. A few plans for the rest of the week...storytime at the library, swimming in the pool, and a playdate with friends. FOR TODAY~ May 19, 2009... Outside my window...the sky is overcast and there are puddles on the ground. I am thinking...today is the day to tackle the mess in the laundry room. I am thankful for...rain, rain, and more rain! After months of drought-like conditions it's rained almost daily for the past week. Temps are back down in the 80's. From the learning rooms...trying to decide what to work on with Lil' Nut over the summer. I can't believe she'll be starting kindergarten this fall. From the kitchen...turkey burgers and a big garden salad. I am wearing...a denim skirt and a bright floral shirt. I am creating...a list for graduation cards and gifts. I hope the budget can handle the month of May! I am reading...in my Bible: II Samuel and Mark; just for fun: Child of the Mist by Kathleen Morgan. I am hoping...that I can stay focused on the household tasks that need to be completed today. I am hearing...Toby snoring at my feet. Around the house...vacuuming, dusting, laundry, ironing, and rotating the clothes in the kids' rooms. One of my favorite things...the smell of rain. A few plans for the rest of the week...lessons with Lil' Nut, piano lessons, a trip to the library, visit the vegetable market, and work on several projects around the house. FOR TODAY~ April 27, 2009... Outside my window...it's a hot, sunny day. We sure do need some rain! I am thinking...the cookie jar need to be filled. I am thankful for...yesterday's services at our church. I felt so refreshed after the great preaching! From the learning rooms...lots of books to read this week. From the kitchen...steaks are marinating in preparation for supper. I am wearing...a green shirt, black skirt, and Crocs flip-flops. I am creating...a list of cards and gifts needed for the month of May. Can you believe May is just a few days away? I am reading...in my Bible: I Samuel and Matthew. I am hoping...that we get some rain this week. It's so dry that our backyard pond is turning into a puddle. I am hearing...a favorite song on my iPod. Around the house...vacuuming, dusting, laundry, and ironing. One of my favorite things...clean, shiny wood floors. A few plans for the rest of the week...lessons with Lil' Nut, a visit to the library, a shopping trip, and a banquet at the college. FOR TODAY~ April 13, 2009... Outside my window...the sun is beginning to break through the clouds, and the birds are scavenging for their breakfast. I am thinking...about this week's very full calendar. I am thankful for...the wonderful Resurrection Sunday services at our church yesterday. From the learning rooms...we're working on our spring unit study. I need to finish up my list of books that have to be ordered through inter-library loan. From the kitchen...cereal and a banana. I am wearing...a shirt with a brown and coral print, a brown skirt, and brown sandals. I am creating...a list of things that are priorities this week. When my schedule seems overloaded it helps me to make a to-do list that I keep with me throughout the day to help me stay on track. I am reading...in my Bible: Judges; just for fun: This Side of Heaven by Karen Kingsbury. I am hoping...that the kids do their best on their achievement tests this week. I am hearing...our church's radio station. Around the house...vacuuming, dusting, laundry, ironing, and tidying up the sun room. One of my favorite things...watching the kids race around the yard in search of Easter eggs. A few plans for the rest of the week...lessons with Lil' Nut, a trip to the library, a dentist appointment, planning for our upcoming Mother~Daughter banquet, and an out-of-town trip. FOR TODAY~ March 9, 2009... Outside my window...the sun is up and the birds are scavenging for some food. I am thinking...that it is much harder to get up in the morning with this time change. Grrrr! I am thankful for...a fun weekend with my family. From the learning rooms...phonics and fun books. From the kitchen...haven't decided yet. I am wearing...a blue skirt, green tank top, and a blue and green jacket. I am creating...a list of things that need to be accomplished this week. I am reading...in my Bible: Deuteronomy; just for fun: All New Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew. I am hoping...that my mom's important meeting has a good outcome. I am hearing...birds tweeting. Around the house...vacuuming, laundry, ironing, and a major tidy in the pantry. One of my favorite things...the smell of freshly cut grass. A few plans for the rest of the week...lessons with Lil' Nut, a trip to the library, make a planning sheet for our Mother/Daughter luncheon in May, and start working on the garden. FOR TODAY~ March 2, 2009... Outside my window...it's sunny and cool. I am thinking...about what a blessing it is to serve Jesus. I am thankful for...the funds that our church's radio station raised during its annual Restoreathon. From the learning rooms...we're finishing up The Snowy Day and our snow theme. Today's cold weather should make it a little bit more interesting. From the kitchen...cereal, a pink grapefruit, and a cup of English breakfast tea. I am wearing...a black skirt, a burgundy sweater, and my warm slippers. I am creating...a shopping list and menu for the week. I am reading...in my Bible: Psalms; just for fun: Creating a Beautiful Home by Alexandra Stoddard. I am hoping...that my hubby quickly gets over whatever he came down with yesterday. I'm also hoping that he doesn't share it with the rest of us. I am hearing...the radio and the dogs barking. Around the house...vacuuming, laundry, and dusting downstairs. One of my favorite things...watching the steam rise from the pond early in the morning. FOR TODAY~ February 23, 2009... Outside my window...the sun is trying to peek through the clouds, and the birds are digging in the grass for their breakfast. I am thinking...about all the things I need to do today. I am thankful for...getting to spend a couple of hours out on the lake with my husband yesterday. We had so much fun-just the two of us! From the learning rooms...we're rowing The Snowy Day and continuing to work with our letter sounds. From the kitchen...raisin bran and a pink grapefruit. I am wearing...a blue 3/4 sleeve sweater, a denim skirt, and sandals. I am creating...a calendar for March. Can you believe we're about to begin another month? I am reading...in my Bible: Numbers and John; just for fun: The Shih Tzu by Deborah Wood. I am hoping...to spend some time outdoors this afternoon. I am hearing...a CD of piano hymns and Lil' Nut laughing as she chases Toby around the house. Around the house...vacuuming and ironing. My ironing pile is a mile high. ;) One of my favorite things...watching my girls pretend that they're ballerinas. FOR TODAY~ February 9, 2009... Outside my window...the sun is up and the sky is a lovely blue. I am thinking...about the day ahead. I am thankful for...late night talks with my husband. From the learning rooms...Lil' Nut and I are settling into a routine. This week we'll make an abacus and continue working with patterns. From the kitchen...a cup of English breakfast tea and a bagel. FOR TODAY~ February 2, 2009... Outside my window...it's cloudy with a chance of meatballs rain. (Sorry, I just couldn't help myself.) :) I am thinking...how great it feels to wake up to a clean house on a Monday. That happens once in a blue moon. We managed to keep from tearing it apart over the weekend. I am thankful for...my four children. From the learning rooms...I am working on a plan for Lil' Nut's fun preschool time. I don't feel that we have accomplished much over last few months. It's gotten too easy for me to procrastinate and neglect to be creative with our lessons. I'm praying for the Lord's direction in this area. From the kitchen...Grape Nuts cereal (which the rest of my family refuses to eat because they say it tastes like rocks) and a big pink grapefruit. I am wearing...a red long-sleeved shirt, long denim skirt, and black sandals. I am creating...a new cross-stitch sampler. I am reading...in my Bible: Exodus; just for fun: Until We Reach Home by Lynn Austin. I've been on the library waiting list for this book for four months. It's the last fiction book on my fall reading list. I know it's February, but I am making progress. :) I am hoping...that it isn't raining when we go to the grocery store. I am hearing...The Good Morning Show on Gospel 90.3. Around the house...dusting, ironing, and vacuuming. One of my favorite things...holding hands with my daughter Bookworm during church. I'm glad she's not afraid to show affection in public. A few plans for the rest of the week...grocery shopping, a ladies' fellowship, a trip to the library, piano lessons, and a birthday party. FOR TODAY~ January 26, 2009... Outside my window...the sun is shining brightly and the birds are flitting around the yard. I am thinking...about my plans for the day. I am thankful for...the 4,142 in attendance and the 173 souls who trusted Christ as their Saviour yesterday at our church's Anniversary Sunday. I'm working on another post to share pictures and more details of our special day. From the kitchen...banana muffins and fresh-squeezed orange juice. I am wearing...denim skirt, pink and brown shirt, pink denim jacket, and brown sandals. I am creating...a list of birthday cards and presents needed for the month of February. I am reading...in my Bible: Exodus; just for fun: Where the Heart Leads by Kim Vogel Sawyer. I have thoroughly enjoyed each of her books that I have read. She even uses the King James for her scripture references. :) I am hoping...that I get all of our tax paperwork gathered up this week. I am hearing...the hum of the computer and the snoring of my favorite Shih-tzu. Around the house...vacuuming, dusting, and displaying Valentine's Day decorations. One of my favorite things...living in a place where I can wear sandals in January. FOR TODAY~ January 19, 2009... Outside my window...the sun is just peeking up over the trees. Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day! I am thinking...how much I enjoyed the weekend. Mickey had several friends over to celebrate his birthday on Saturday, and Sunday's church services left me with a smile on my face and encouragement to face the week ahead. I am thankful for...President and Mrs. George W. Bush. I appreciate the unfathomable sacrifices they have made over the last 8 years, and I am going to miss them. From the kitchen...English breakfast tea, corn flakes, and grapefruit. I am wearing...my favorite blue p.j.'s and a pair of leopard print slippers. I am creating...a shopping list. I am reading...in my Bible: Exodus; just for fun: The Longing by Beverly Lewis. I didn't have much reading time last week, so hopefully I'll get this one finished in the next day or two. I am hoping...that my husband has a happy day. ;) I am hearing...an old gospel song by the Blackwood Brothers. Around the house...dusting downstairs and tidying the laundry room. One of my favorite things...a crackling fire on a cold night. A few plans for the rest of the week...a trip to the health food store and the library; piano lessons; a parent-teacher meeting at school; a mailout for a big day at our church. FOR TODAY~ January 12, 2009... Outside my window...the sky is overcast and the birds are fluttering around the yard. I am thinking...how blessed I am to have a Bible-believing church to be a part of. I am thankful for...family celebrations. My mom and son both had a birthday yesterday. We were able to enjoy lunch together and watch them open their gifts. From the kitchen...a cinnamon and raisin English muffin with a hot cup of blackberry tea. I am wearing...a denim skirt, white blouse, and brown jacket. I am creating...a shopping list. I am reading...in my Bible: Genesis; just for fun: The Longing by Beverly Lewis. I am hoping...that I get the house tidied quickly this morning. I am hearing...Lil' Nut playing her version of "Jesus Loves Me" on the piano. Around the house...vacuuming downstairs; tidy the kitchen; laundry. One of my favorite things...good preaching! Yesterday we started a Bible Conference at our church. Bro. Brian McBride, Bro. Rick Sowell, and Bro. Bryan Sharp all shared tremendous messages from God's Word. We have many more preachers arriving today. I'm looking forward to the next three days of the special services. A few plans for the rest of the week...I'll try to fit in a run to the grocery store today. We have services at church the next three nights as well as morning services Tuesday and Wednesday. FOR TODAY~ January 5, 2009... Outside my window...it's foggy right now, but it should turn out to be a lovely Florida day with mostly clear skies and an expected high of 82 degrees. I am thinking...how wonderful it feels to wake up to a clean kitchen. I am thankful for...Christian friends. From the kitchen...I got away from a regular menu plan during the holidays, so it's back to the drawing board this week. Most of the meals will include regular favorites. I am wearing...a kakhi and blue striped skirt, navy blue shirt, and denim jacket. I am creating...a plan for organizing the girls' bedroom. I am reading...in my Bible: Genesis; just for fun: When the Soul Mends by Cindy Woodsmall. I am hoping...that my husband has a good day at the office. I am hearing...a CD of lovely piano hymns. Around the house...the Christmas decorations have already been put away (Praise the Lord!). Today there will be a quick tidy of the downstairs rooms, and a couple of loads of laundry need to be done. One of my favorite things...watching the sun rise while I'm out walking the dog. A few plans for the rest of the week...stock up at the grocery store; visit the library; go through a few containers of outgrown children's clothing; deep clean the girls' bedroom; plan for two birthdays coming up in a few days; write several thank-you notes. For Today: December 8, 2008
Outside my window...it's a cold, sunny morning.

I am thinking...how important it is to use a calendar for planning all of the upcoming Christmas events.

I am thankful for...the ministry of missions. Last night we finished up our annual Missions Conference at church and totaled our Faith Promise goal for 2009. In spite of financial changes people are experiencing due to the economy, our church increased the goal for next year. Praise the Lord!

From the kitchen...a cup of hot peach tea.

I am wearing...my jammys (it's cold and early!).

I am creating...a Christmas card list.

I am going...to help put up the Christmas decorations at the church building today.

I am reading...in my Bible: II Timothy; just for fun: a biography on Mrs. Charles Haddon Spurgeon.

I am hoping...the kids continue to stay healthy in the midst of the sickness that is going around.

I am hearing...good gospel music on our church's radio station.

Around the house...laundry; deep cleaning the living room; boxing up the children's outgrown clothes to give away.

One of my favorite things...socks on my feet to keep them warm.

A few plans for the rest of the week...shopping; piano lessons; a trip to the library; attend a Christmas banquet.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing...Bookworm recently competed in the regional spelling bee and won! She advanced to the state bee finals and made it through eleven rounds. We are so proud of her!

For Today: December 1, 2008
Outside my window...we're having perfect Florida weather: clear, sunny skies with a high around 70 degrees.

I am thinking...about several thank-you notes that need to be written and mailed.

I am thankful for...a relaxing Thanksgiving holiday. I didn't have to cook this year; we traveled out-of-town and enjoyed the day with my dad, brothers and sisters, and their families. I even got to meet my 6 week old great-niece!

From the kitchen...ravioli with marinara sauce simmering in the slow cooker, a tossed salad, and fresh garlic bread.

I am wearing...a blue and khaki striped skirt, navy blue shirt, and brown jacket.

I am creating...a 700 piece Thomas Kinkade puzzle that is causing me to age prematurely. Seriously, this is the toughest puzzle I've ever worked on!

I am going...to take Lil' Nut on a walk around the neighborhood.

I am reading...in my Bible: I Timothy; just for fun: The Cure is in The Cupboard by Dr. Cass Ingram. I decided to read through this book about the many uses of oregano again after mentioning it to my friend Susan last week.

I am hoping...that we have good attendance at church later this week for our Missions Conference.

I am hearing...Lil' Nut playing a game.

Around the house...laundry; finish decorating the house for Christmas; go through the kids' seasonal clothes.

One of my favorite things...cinnamon-scented candles.

A few plans for the rest of the week...a trip to the vet, grocery shopping, piano lessons, and attending the evening services at our church's annual Missions Conference beginning Wednesday.

For Today: October 20, 2008
Outside my window...it's still dark and quiet.

I am thinking...that it is actually starting to feel like fall in Florida. The high yesterday was 79 degrees!

I am thankful for...the freedom we have to attend a church where the word of God is preached without compromise. I wonder how long we'll continue to have this freedom if a socialist is elected in two weeks.

From the kitchen...apple pie.

I am wearing...a pink sweater, brown and pink paisley skirt, and brown sandals.

I am creating...a list of things I'm thankful for.

I am going...to church this morning. Our fall Bible conference began last night and goes through Wednesday. There are preaching services each morning as well.

I am reading...in my Bible: Psalms; just for fun: Susanna Wesley by Arnold A. Dallimore.

I am hoping...that this lingering cough goes somewhere else.

I am hearing...the sound of the dryer working on load #1 of the day.

Around the house...laundry; deep cleaning the bathrooms; tidying up the laundry room.

One of my favorite things...hot tea.

A few plans for the rest of the week...We'll be busy with the Bible conference for most of the week. Even though my body may grow weary, I never tire of hearing good preaching. :)

For Today: October 14, 2008
Outside my window...the sun is shining following an early morning shower. It is going to be a beautiful day!

I am thinking...about doing something fun with the kids while they are out of school Thursday and Friday.

I am thankful for...my mom watching Lil' Nut yesterday and bringing us supper so that I could get some rest and fight this chest cold.

From the kitchen...a big pot of homemade vegetable soup that my mother-in-law made for me. If I can garner enough energy I might bake a fresh loaf of bread to go with it.

I am wearing...a white t-shirt, navy blue skirt, and my favorite pair of slippers.

I am creating...a list of needed cards and gifts for the month of November.

I am going...to go outside with Lil' Nut and watch her ride her bike.

I am reading...in my Bible: Psalms; just for fun: Susanna Wesley by Arnold A. Dallimore.

I am hoping...that this week is uneventful. :)

I am hearing...Buddy barking at the birds outside and Lil' Nut laughing as she watches an alphabet video.

Around the house...laundry; vacuuming upstairs and downstairs; dusting.

One of my favorite things...listening to my children read aloud. I am glad that my children are developing a love of good books.

A few plans for the rest of the week...housekeeping and resting.

I am thinking...that I'd really like to go back to bed. I feel like I'm coming down with something and just feel puny today.

I am thankful for...a crate of romaine lettuce and several pints of fresh raspberries someone blessed us with.

From the kitchen...hot tea to soothe my throat.

I am wearing...a brown t-shirt, denim skirt, and slippers.

I am creating...a list of activities for Lil' Nut to work on this week during our "Fun Preschool" time.

I am going...to travel to South Florida with a group of ladies from our church later this week. We'll be attending a ladies' conference at a Bible-believing church. I'm looking forward to it!

I am reading...in my Bible: Psalms; just for fun: Waiting for Summer's Return by Kim Vogel Sawyer.

I am hoping...that the herbs I am taking are effective.

I am hearing...Lil' Nut sing a song while she colors.

Around the house...laundry; ironing; tidying up the pantry.

One of my favorite things...orchids; they are simply elegant.

A few plans for the rest of the week...housekeeping; a trip to the library; get Buddy groomed; homecoming week festivities; attend an out-of-town ladies' conference.

Outside my window...squirrels are foraging for their breakfast.

I am thankful for...four healthy children.

From the kitchen...pinwheel cream cheese and chive sandwiches and a brownie pie for a fellowship this evening.

I am wearing...a denim skirt, white t-shirt, and my favorite pair of slippers.

I am creating...a grocery list.

I am going...to take a walk with Lil' Nut.

I am reading...in my Bible: Esther; just for fun: Sunset by Karen Kingsbury.

I am hoping...that we get some rain later today.

I am hearing...birds tweeting outside my window.

Around the house...laundry; detailed cleaning in the family room; refilling of the bird feeders.

One of my favorite things...chocolate covered peanuts.

A few plans for the rest of the week...organize a trip to a ladies' conference for our ladies at church; a get-together with friends; out-of-town family visiting; story time at the library.

I am thankful for...our military. Last night at church a missionary from Armed Forces Baptist Missions shared his ministry. I was reminded how important it is to pray not just for the safety of those serving our great country, but for their spiritual salvation as well.

From the kitchen...more banana bread! I'm going to add some walnuts to this batch.

I am wearing...an orange skirt; a blouse with lots of tan, orange, and pink; tan sandals.

I am creating...my list of books to read this fall.

I am going...to eat lunch with my three older kids at school today.

I am reading...in my Bible: Esther; just for fun: All She Ever Wanted by Lynn Austin.

I am hoping...that my expecting friend has an easy delivery. She's two weeks away from her due date, but the doctor thinks it will be soon. :)

I am hearing...Buddy barking at every car that drives past our house.

Around the house...laundry; a ton of ironing (that's what happens when you get a little lazy); deep cleaning the master suite.

One of my favorite things...homemade butter creme frosting.

A few plans for the rest of the week...work on a couple of church-related projects; learn with my preschooler; story time at the library; write a few letters; help Bookworm gather resources for her science project; catch some sunshine out by the pool.
