A House Full of Teenagers
You never know what to expect when a full-size Bluebird bus pulls up in the driveway. Thankfully, we were ready for this one. Monday night we welcomed a few of the teens from church to our house and hosted the "main course" of their Christmas progressive dinner. The weather was just perfect for a big pot of chili. I used a new-to-me recipe and was pleased with the result. The kids gobbled it up.It wasn't long before everyone loaded back on the bus and headed to their final destination of the evening--and dessert! I'm thankful for our great group of teens and the faithful adults that work with them.

The plants are whimps, too.
This is what we do to our plants in Florida when it freezes. This is what happens to your plants when you don't bundle them up before you go to bed. Don't worry; the orange trees are fine. ;)

Baby, it's cold outside!
Tonight I'm thankful for... ~ plenty of firewood ~ fuzzy socks on my feet ~ warm pajamas ~ hot cocoa ~ electric heat Central Florida is experiencing a hard freeze tonight. With temperatures in the 20's, it's going to be hard for me to get up in the morning and greet students as they arrive at school. It was so windy today that my skin is now chapped. I'm a wimp. My Northern friends would laugh if they could see me bundled up in layers. We can't even buy decent coats here in Florida. I'm not complaining, though. The pictures I've seen of snowstorms up North give me the chills. Stay warm tonight, wherever you are.

Welcome December
Florida has some very unique characteristics, one being that you may need to run the air conditioner one day and build a fire in the fireplace the very next day. Tuesday it was in the 80's; today we needed three layers of clothing to keep from shivering. We're wimps. This morning when I came downstairs I beheld a rare, wonderful site. (Please ignore the soot; Dick Van Dyke hasn't been around to sweep the chimney.)
Tonight we'll bundle up and head to church for night #2 of our annual missions conference. Last night's service was such a blessing! A national pastor from the Philippines preached the message, and there was also a presentation by a couple of deaf nationals from the island of St. Lucia who desire to evangelize the deaf in their home country. Another man from the island has completed his training and plans to go to Zimbabwe as a missionary to the deaf people there. There are so many people in the world who still have never been told that Jesus died for their sins so that they can spend eternity in heaven with Him. The deaf need to "hear" this message, too, and I am so thankful that our church has a ministry to the hearing impaired in our community and supports missionaries who minister to deaf people around the world.
