No need to worry
Georgia, 2007
~Psalm 62:5-8 KJV~ My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.

Last night we were privileged to have Bro. Tony Hutson preach at our Bible conference. He wasn't feeling very well, but he still sang a couple of songs during the message that got folks a-shoutin'. Those of you who have heard Bro. Hutson before know what I'm talking about. :) I'm off to hear some more good preaching this morning but wanted take a moment and post the lyrics to "The Lifeboat", one of the songs Bro. Hutson sang as he reminisced about his dad's home going. I'm looking forward to that great reunion day!
The Life-Boat We're floating down the stream of time, We have not long to stay; The stormy clouds of darkness Will turn to brightest day. Then let us all take courage, For we're not left alone; The life-boat soon is coming To gather the Jewels home. Then cheer, my brother cheer, Out trials will soon be o'er, Our loved ones we shall meet, shall meet, Upon the golden shore. We're pilgrims and we're strangers here, We're seeking a city to come, The life-boat soon is coming To gather the Jewels home. Sometimes the devil tempts me, And says it's all in vain To try to live a Christian life And walk in Jesus' name. But then we hear the Master say, "I'll lend you a helping hand, And if you'll only trust Me, I'll guide you to that land." Then cheer, my brother cheer, Out trials will soon be o'er, Our loved ones we shall meet, shall meet, Upon the golden shore. We're pilgrims and we're strangers here, We're seeking a city to come, The life-boat soon is coming To gather the Jewels home. The life-boat soon is coming, By eye of faith I see As she sweeps through the waters To rescue you and me. And land us safely in the port With friends we love so dear, "Get ready," cries the Captain; "O look, she's almost here." Then cheer, my brother cheer, Out trials will soon be o'er, Our loved ones we shall meet, shall meet, Upon the golden shore. We're pilgrims and we're strangers here, We're seeking a city to come, The life-boat soon is coming To gather the Jewels home. O now's the time to get on board, While she is passing by; But if you stand and wait too long, You shall forever die; The fare is paid for one and all, The Captain bids you come, And get on board the life-boat, She'll carry you safely home. Then cheer, my brother cheer, Out trials will soon be o'er, Our loved ones we shall meet, shall meet, Upon the golden shore. We're pilgrims and we're strangers here, We're seeking a city to come, The life-boat soon is coming To gather the Jewels home.

The Simple Woman's Daybook~ October 20
For Today: October 20, 2008

Outside my window...it's still dark and quiet.

I am thinking...that it is actually starting to feel like fall in Florida. The high yesterday was 79 degrees!

I am thankful for...the freedom we have to attend a church where the word of God is preached without compromise. I wonder how long we'll continue to have this freedom if a socialist is elected in two weeks.

From the kitchen...apple pie.

I am wearing...a pink sweater, brown and pink paisley skirt, and brown sandals.

I am creating...a list of things I'm thankful for.

I am going...to church this morning. Our fall Bible conference began last night and goes through Wednesday. There are preaching services each morning as well.

I am reading...in my Bible: Psalms; just for fun: Susanna Wesley by Arnold A. Dallimore.

I am hoping...that this lingering cough goes somewhere else.

I am hearing...the sound of the dryer working on load #1 of the day.

Around the house...laundry; deep cleaning the bathrooms; tidying up the laundry room.

One of my favorite things...hot tea.

A few plans for the rest of the week...We'll be busy with the Bible conference for most of the week. Even though my body may grow weary, I never tire of hearing good preaching. :)

Here is a picture thought I am sharing...

7 Things
I've been tagged by several of my blogging friends to do the "7 random things" meme. Well, here goes! 1. I was a Presidential Classroom Scholar when I was 15. I spent a week with some of America's brightest kids and met many of Washington's elite. It was an exciting time! 2. The obstetrician and assisting nurse that delivered me way back in 1976 also delivered my firstborn in the same hospital. 3. I'm left-handed. Extremely left-handed. 4. I auditioned to sing with Bill and Gloria Gaither when I was in the third grade. I didn't make the cut, but I got over it. 5. I'm double jointed yet not very flexible. 6. I play the flute and clarinet. 7. I will eat practically any food.
~~~~~
If you would like to participate, consider yourself tagged. Let me know if you post your seven things; I would like to read them! Also, it's not too late to enter my giveaway. :)
The Simple Woman's Daybook~ October 14
For Today: October 14, 2008
Outside my window...the sun is shining following an early morning shower. It is going to be a beautiful day!
I am thinking...about doing something fun with the kids while they are out of school Thursday and Friday.
I am thankful for...my mom watching Lil' Nut yesterday and bringing us supper so that I could get some rest and fight this chest cold.
From the kitchen...a big pot of homemade vegetable soup that my mother-in-law made for me. If I can garner enough energy I might bake a fresh loaf of bread to go with it.
I am wearing...a white t-shirt, navy blue skirt, and my favorite pair of slippers.
I am creating...a list of needed cards and gifts for the month of November.
I am going...to go outside with Lil' Nut and watch her ride her bike.
I am reading...in my Bible: Psalms; just for fun: Susanna Wesley by Arnold A. Dallimore.
I am hoping...that this week is uneventful. :)
I am hearing...Buddy barking at the birds outside and Lil' Nut laughing as she watches an alphabet video.
Around the house...laundry; vacuuming upstairs and downstairs; dusting.
One of my favorite things...listening to my children read aloud. I am glad that my children are developing a love of good books.
A few plans for the rest of the week...housekeeping and resting.
Here is a picture thought I am sharing...This picture was taken from the balcony of my hotel room in Fort Myers this past weekend. The view was just breathtaking!
Since I've been a naughty, absent blogger this week, I thought I'd catch you up on what's been happening around here.
~~~~~oOo~~~~~
"Color Day"
"Backwards Day"
"Red, White, & Blue Day"
Buddy had his first visit to a new groomer. I asked the groomer to cut his hair short; she sure followed my directions! This poor dog doesn't even look like a Schnauzer now without his mustache and bushy eyebrows.
In the midst of a busy week of homecoming activities and various appoinments, I came down with a cold. I ran a fever for a couple of days, and now I'm fighting a cough. I've had this basketful of "friends" close by to keep me company and help me on the road to recover. Oh, you didn't know that chocolate is part of the protocol?:)
Yesterday I finally started to feel a little bit better but still didn't have a whole lot of energy. My only completed chore--clipping coupons.
When the housekeeper takes a few days off, the chores pile up quickly. Today I tackled some necessary tasks around our home. The tubs and showers got a good scrubbing.
A mountain of school uniforms were washed and folded. In fact, I got four loads of laundry done today...yipee!
As I finished folding the last load of laundry, this Bible verse on the back of a P.E. shirt caught my eye. What a simple reminder that God certainly gives us the strength we need to face the challenges that arise each day.

Lord-willing tomorrow I will feel well enough to travel with a group of ladies from our church to attend a ladies' retreat. It's been almost five years since I spent two whole days away from my family; I'm not sure I'll know how to handle it! I am praying that each of the ladies attending the conference will come away refreshed and encouraged. The Lord knew well in advance what He had planned for me this week, and I am confident that He has something special in store for me at this meeting. :) I'll be back Monday with my Daybook entry and details on a special giveaway. Take care! :)

The Simple Woman's Daybook~ October 6
For Today: October 6, 2008

Outside my window...the sky is slightly overcast.

I am thinking...that I'd really like to go back to bed. I feel like I'm coming down with something and just feel puny today.

I am thankful for...a crate of romaine lettuce and several pints of fresh raspberries someone blessed us with.

From the kitchen...hot tea to soothe my throat.

I am wearing...a brown t-shirt, denim skirt, and slippers.

I am creating...a list of activities for Lil' Nut to work on this week during our "Fun Preschool" time.

I am going...to travel to South Florida with a group of ladies from our church later this week. We'll be attending a ladies' conference at a Bible-believing church. I'm looking forward to it!

I am reading...in my Bible: Psalms; just for fun: Waiting for Summer's Return by Kim Vogel Sawyer.

I am hoping...that the herbs I am taking are effective.

I am hearing...Lil' Nut sing a song while she colors.

Around the house...laundry; ironing; tidying up the pantry.

One of my favorite things...orchids; they are simply elegant.

A few plans for the rest of the week...housekeeping; a trip to the library; get Buddy groomed; homecoming week festivities; attend an out-of-town ladies' conference.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing...
(you can click on the photo to enlarge)This week is full of fun homecoming activities at our Christian school. Today my kiddos dressed up for "Tacky Day". Don't they look silly cute? :)

~~Housework Can Wait~~ Come in, but don't expect to find All dishes done, all floors ashine. Observe the crumbs and toys galore. The smudgy prints upon the door. The little ones we shelter here Don't thrive on a spotless atmosphere. They're more inclined to disarray And carefree even messy play. Their needs are great, their patience small. All day I'm at their beck and call. It's Mommy come! Mommy see! Wiggly worms and red scraped knee. Painted pictures, blocks piled high. My floors unshined, the days go by. Some future day they'll flee this nest, And I at last will have a rest! Now you tell me which matters more, A happy child or a polished floor? ...Author Unknown ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had to smile when I came across this poem today. While it is important that I care for my home and make it a comfortable haven for my family, I must remember that people are more important than things. My children are with me for just a few short years. The sand is trickling through the hourglass, and I don't want to waste precious time fretting over my home when I could be basking in the joy of the priceless treasures my Heavenly Father has blessed me with. image credit
