Friday's Fave Five ~ 6.21.13

It was pretty quiet at my house this week. The girls were all at our church's youth camp. Hope and Bryn were campers, and Shay was a junior counselor. Case was happy to have the house (and all the ice cream in the freezer) to himself. Here are five of my favorites from the week.

1. I'm thankful that the girls had a great week at camp. They made lots of fun memories and came home spiritually encouraged. Hope had a little incident one day during the tube pull and slightly imbedded her braces in her cheek for a minute, but she's a tough cookie and is doing fine now. Bug bites and sunburn are all part of the experience. I'm also thankful for the volunteers who help make our camp such a great one.

2. Peace and quiet. I missed the girls, but they are NOISY!

3. A trip to the salon. There's nothing like a good color and cut to brighten your week.

3. Date night involved filet, lobster, and a sweet potato. A bit of a splurge, but it was worth it.

4. It rained just about every day this week. Some parts of the country have had severe storms, but we've been blessed. One morning it was already 81 degrees when I got up at 5:30. The evening showers cool things off just a tiny bit.

5. I had time to tackle a few projects this week. The three girls share a bedroom and a closet. The closet is a monster. It gives me nightmares. I save everything and pass it down to the next girl. The girls don't wear a lot of the clothes in the closet because they can't even see what's in there. I took everything out, sorted it, and then put back in the essentials. I have five huge trash bags filled with clothes and shoes to donate to the local thrift shop on my next trip to town. After removing all the excess, they each still have plenty to wear. Here are before and after pictures.

Now that I can see the floor in the girls' room, I'm off to shampoo the carpet. I hope you all have a great weekend! You can link up with Susanne and share your favorites from the week here.

I laughed about the ice cream. There is a little boy in my sunday school class that has a large family. He always tells me something about cold treats. Last week it was "Mommy bought two boxes of popsicles and said I could only have four. You know, sharing." Always makes me laugh.

Great job on the closet. I have few that I need to tackle.

I enjoy 'quiet days' too.

And date nights.... They made my list this week, also.

Your closet looks amazing.

That is too cute, Wendi! My kids sometimes call me the "food police", but I have to ration the good stuff if I'm going to make it through the week without the cupboards going bare.

Nice to meet you Paula! Sounds like you had a quiet productive week while the girls were away. The closet looks fabulous. So will the girls freak out that you might have bagged something they really like? Have a great weekend!

My three daughters had to share a closet. It was horrible! You did a good job decluttering it.

I so agree with you - a trip to the salon makes one feel so much better!

Oh my gosh that food looks good. I wish my closet was as neat as yours is.

Wow that must have been a huge work to sort out the wardrobe, lol

You did a great job on that closet - I only have one daughter and cleaning her closet (when she was little) was also a nightmare :) She was a packrat and saved everything. So I always had to clean(throw away) it when she was away. :) I'm sure you feel good having that done - it's a very satisfying feeling!

That dinner looks scrumptious!

Glad your girls had a great time at camp and you had a lovely quiet, productive week!

Hi Paula,
What a gift you gave to your daughters by decluttering it. Now if only things STAYED decluttered.

Quiet time is a gift. Even though I am an empty nester, I value my quiet time still.

Volunteers certainly are a God-send. SO glad your girls had a great week at camp (minus the braces vs cheek incident).

Wow, what a difference in that closet. I keep trying to get my 18 year old to purge her closet for the same reason. She doesn't wear half of her stuff because she can't see what she has. Yikes.

I always find it amazing how quiet the house is when the young people are not there.

Hats off to all those who work with the kids in youth camps! Glad your daughter is alright from the little incident and great memories were made.

Your date dinner looks yummy. We too, went out for steak to celebrate our anniversary.

Ugh. I'm sure you dreaded looking in that closet. But it looks fantastic now! And hopefully a lot more useful to your girls.

That dinner looks phenomenal! It's fun to indulge in a splurge sometimes.

But the important question is...did Hope's team WIN the tube pull???? ;) Because we all know those bragging rights last all year long!!!

And I bet Case enjoyed the quiet week just as much as you did. I l-o-v-e my quiet time and don't get nearly as much of it as I would like.

So glad you are blogging again,
Alesha
