Dear Master, for this coming year
Just one request I bring:
I do not pray for happiness,
Or any earthly thing-
I do not ask to understand
The way Thou leadest me,
But this I ask: Teach me to do
The thing that pleaseth Thee.
I want to know Thy guiding voice,
To wak with Thee each day.
Dear Master, make me swift to hear
And ready to obey.
And thus the year I now begin
A happy year will be-
If I am seeking just to do
The thing that pleaseth Thee.

This poem was posted on the back of our church bulletin this past Sunday, and I thought it was just perfect for today. A new year is a time for new beginnings, for making decisions and setting goals. Throughout the Bible there are examples of changes made on the first day of the first month of the year, so I don't think there is anything wrong with making some resolutions as long as they are made as a result of prayer and according to God's will.
Above all else in 2009, it is my desire to draw closer to the Lord and to please Him. I believe that there will be many positive changes in my life in the coming year as a result of this desire.
