Happy Tuesday! This morning I hit the ground running--well, I guess it was more like walking. :) I get so much more accomplished during the day if I get an early start. Lately it has been my goal to have the majority of the housework done by 9 a.m. so that I can focus on Lil' Nut. More detailed projects like ironing can wait until she's having her afternoon quiet time. So far the plan has been working out well. This morning the vacuum was my cleaning companion. Together we tackled some of my least favorite chores upstairs in hopes of ridding the house of dust bunnies. Mickey's allergies have gotten so bad since we've moved back to Florida that he has had to go back on allergy medicine. I need to purchase some Kleenex stock. :) Several years ago we owned a two-story house, and I always dreaded cleaning the stairs. One time I fell backward, and the vacuum fell right on top of me! I wasn't hurt, but it scared me to death! I don't have a cordless stick vacuum, so thankfully my vacuum is lightweight and there is a runner on the steps. We have a huge staircase, but it only took about 3 minutes to vacuum it. Sometimes I put off a job because I think it will take a long time when really it doesn't take long at all. Do you do that, too? The bedrooms in our home have bi-fold closet doors. The dust really seems to attract to them so quickly! The brush attachment on the vacuum works great for these. The door panels and crown molding also got a good cleaning. The molding seems to blend in with the walls which are still white. I haven't quite gotten into the painting mode yet. I need to get with it because the holidays will be here before we know it, and I will still have white walls (shrudder). Now that my morning housekeeping tasks are completed, I can focus on some BIG plans for the rest of the day. I'll share all about it tomorrow. Here's a clue to get your wheels turning. :) Have a great day! :) Image from here.

No, you are not the only one that puts off a job because you think it's going to take a long time. It's amazing what can be accomplished in just a few minutes.

Wow Mrs.C, your staircase is just beautiful. I have always wanted hardwood stairs with a runner. As a matter of fact, we are in the process of making the decision of whether to replace our carpet or put down hardwood in it's place. (I've never had hardwood) I was wondering, in your experience which is easier to care for, and also holds up better? And yes, I am the same way about putting things off. I almost laugh at myself sometimes because after the dreaded task is completed I realized I worried about it a lot longer than it actually took to accomplish it:o)

Kristi,
I'm glad I'm not alone. :)

Susan P.,
I prefer hardwood over carpet. The fact that I have four young children may have something to do with that. :) Wood doesn't seem to stain as easily as carpet does.

Our last home had laminate floors. The thing I didn't like about them was that every spot and footprint seemed to show. I don't seem to notice the *dirt* as much with hardwood.

This home has wood floors, tile, and carpet. If you can afford the hardwood, that would be my choice. :)

Indeed its much easier to do the work in the morning than face it all day. Love the stairs.

Nope, you're not the only one who puts off a job. I always put off pressing clothing and wow....guess what I had to do after work yesterday? yup, finally press the skirts and pants I need for work! (that's what happens when I have my summers off..the ironing piles up in my closet!)

Love your staircase.

i LOVE white walls. Mine are actually cream all through out the house except for the girls' bedrooms (one is a robin eggshell blue that I did 3 eyars ago and the other is lilac wallpaper). I have stenciled the dining room, master bedroom and our living room has a top border but...rest of house is plain with just simple pictures. I would LOVE your white!!

Your stairs are beautiful and I'm the same way when it comes to something I'm putting off. I hardly ever takes as long or is hard as I think it will be! I like to get my cleaning out of the way nice and early too.

I too think a job is so much bigger or longer in my mind...silly things...and then the reality of the project and the time it took....I think how foolish I was.....
that is a big staircase...it is beautiful though...

I love your carpeting on the staircase; it's lovely! If we ever have own a home, I'd like to have hardwood flooring, too. I love carpeting, too, though, so I can't complain about our current home. Our last house had tile flooring in every room of the first floor -- kitchen, living room, dining room, laundry room -- and, I tell you, it was FREEZING in the winter!!! Not very attractive, either.

Can't wait to see the finished results of your painting efforts :o)
