Poor Sassy!

Sassy stayed at the vet's office for 24 hours after her surgeries. We brought her home late yesterday, and I was amazed at how well she seemed to be feeling. Today was a different story. Sassy's pain medicine must have worn off because she was in quite a bit of pain. She was content to snooze the day away curled up on my bed. That's fine with me; I'm sure I'd feel the same way.
We've lined her litter box with shreded newspaper since she won't be able to use litter for the next several days. So far she hasn't seemed to "use" the paper but wants to sleep on it instead. Any suggestions??

We had a lovely, sweet Siamese many years ago, and had her claws removed. She hid in the closet for almost 2 days. We had no idea if she was using the litter box or not - she only came out when we were out of the house or in bed. But she was just fine in a few days, and returned to her sweet, loving self. Cats are very self-regulating! LOL! I wouldn't worry too much.

Poor Sassy! I do hope she's feeling better soon! We had a cat years ago that we had de-clawed (he actually looked a lot like your Sassy) and it took him about a week to get back to his normal self. I don't remember him having any problems using the litter box--but he had bandanges on his paws.

I don't know a single thing about kitties and their litter boxes, but I do feel so bad for poor Sassy! LOL We did have a cat once (I've had exactly ONE cat my whole adult life - dh hates them, mother and MIL allergic to them) that we had neutered and declawed, but I don't remember him having any litter box problems.

I've never been able to get my cats to use newspaper. And then the vet tried to get me to use some stuff called 'Yesterday's News' which is newspaper made into pellets.

I ended up having to just use the regular cat litter and tried to keep their paws clean. I know the vet wouldn't like me telling you that because they're afraid the clumping litter will get inside the sutures and cause infection. But what can you do if your cat won't use the litter box?!

Also, they sent home pain medication with me, did they not for you? If she still seems to be in pain after a day or two I'd call and ask the vet for some pain medication for her.

Blessings,
~Mrs.B

PS--I hope I didn't come across as bossy. Didn't mean to, just trying to help. (o:

Poor Sassy!! I know how difficult it is to see a pet in pain and not feeling well. Bless her heart. I hope she is healed and doing better soon.
